Lost, Changed or New Passport? What to Do About Your Vietnam eVisa Before You Fly

You have your Vietnam eVisa. Your trip is booked. Everything seems ready.

Then you notice something: the passport number on your eVisa is different from the passport you're travelling with.

This can happen if you:

  • 🔄 Renewed, changed or replaced your passport
  • 🪪 Lost your passport and had a new one issued
  • ⚠️ Packed a different passport by mistake

"But my Vietnam eVisa is already approved. Why does this matter?"

Fair question. You paid for your visa, you received your approval, and your name and nationality are correct.

The problem is that a Vietnam eVisa is linked to one specific passport, including its passport number and validity dates. It does not move to a new passport automatically.

So before you fly, check the details on your eVisa against the passport you'll actually use.

Step 1: Compare your eVisa with your passport

Whether you renewed your passport, received a replacement or simply grabbed the wrong one, the first check is the same. Compare:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Nationality
  • Passport number
  • Issue date
  • Expiry date

Step 2: What your result means

✅ Everything matches. Your eVisa belongs to the passport you're travelling with. Just make sure your passport is still valid for your trip, and you're good to go.

❌ The passport number doesn't match. In most cases, you'll need a new eVisa for your new passport. Your old eVisa stays linked to your old passport number.

Still have your old passport? Keep it with you, but carrying both passports does not fix the mismatch on its own.
