Short answer: every child needs their own Vietnam eVisa, including babies. There is no family application and no discount: each child is a separate application with their own passport scan, photo and government fee ($25 single or $50 multiple entry). A child who is a citizen of a visa-exempt country can travel visa-free like an adult.
What you need for each child
- The child's own passport, valid for at least 6 months after arrival. Children listed only in a parent's passport are rare today, and these cases are best checked before applying.
- A scan of the bio page: flat, all four corners, no glare.
- A portrait photo on a plain white background, face straight on, eyes open if possible. See the tips below.
- The same entry date, entry point and address as the parents.
Photos of babies and toddlers
Immigration is more tolerant with babies, but the photo still needs a plain background and a clearly visible face.
- Lay the baby on a white sheet and take the photo from directly above, in daylight.
- No hands, toys or dummy/pacifier in the shot.
- Eyes don't have to be fully open for infants, but the face must be sharp and uncovered.
- Crop to a portrait shape with the head and top of the shoulders.
Apply at the same time as the parents
Submit all the family's applications together, with the same dates. If one application comes back for an amendment and the others don't, you can deal with that one without holding up the rest. Don't add a child to a parent's application: it doesn't work and can delay the parent's file.
Travelling with one parent, or someone else
Vietnam doesn't publish a formal consent-letter requirement for minors, but airlines and officers can ask questions. If a child travels with one parent, or with grandparents or friends, carry a signed consent letter from the absent parent(s) and a copy of the birth certificate. That matters especially if surnames differ.
