Short answer: Tết (Lunar New Year) 2027 falls on Saturday 6 February. Government offices, including the immigration department that approves eVisas, are closed for seven days, from Thursday 4 February to Wednesday 10 February 2027. You can still submit an application during the break, but it will not be approved until offices reopen. If you arrive in Vietnam between late January and mid-February, apply by mid-January.
Airports and border gates stay open during Tết. An eVisa that is already approved works as normal. Only new approvals stop.
Key dates

| Date | What happens |
|---|---|
| Mid-January 2027 | Recommended latest date to apply if you arrive any time up to mid-February. Leaves room for normal processing and any amendment request. |
| Fri 29 Jan – Wed 3 Feb | The last working days before the break. Volumes are high, so standard processing is often slower than usual. |
| Wed 3 Feb | Last working day. Urgent processing, if still possible, needs to be finished on this day. |
| Thu 4 Feb – Wed 10 Feb | Offices closed. Applications can be submitted, but they sit in the queue. |
| Thu 11 Feb onwards | Offices reopen with a backlog. Expect the first week after Tết to be slower than normal. |
Dates are based on the official seven-day holiday announced by Vietnam’s Ministry of Home Affairs for public offices. Weekends either side of the break are normal non-working days.
When should you apply?

- Arriving 4 to 17 February: aim to submit by 15 January. Standard processing is 3 to 5 working days, and the pre-Tết rush can stretch that.
- Arriving late January: apply as early as you can, ideally three weeks before the flight.
- Arriving after 17 February: you can apply after the break, but allow extra days for the backlog.
- Staying 45 days or less on a visa-exempt passport (UK, Germany, France, Japan, South Korea and others): you may not need an eVisa at all. Check the list by country.
What if your application is still processing when Tết starts?
Nothing is lost. The application stays in the queue and is reviewed after offices reopen on 11 February. Do not submit a second application: it costs another government fee and joins the same queue.
Check your status once a day in the last week of January with your registration code. If it shows “amendment required”, fix it straight away. An amendment left until after 3 February will not be reviewed until after the break.
Flying during the break and still no eVisa?
These are the realistic options, from most to least reliable:

- Speed it up before 3 February. If your application was submitted in January and your flight is during or just after Tết, it can often be pushed through before the break. This is what we do: speeding up an application you already filed, with no second government fee.
- Ask about holiday processing. Some urgent processing is occasionally possible on days off, but it is limited and never guaranteed during Tết. Message us with your registration code and flight time, and we will tell you honestly whether it can be done before you pay anything.
- Move the flight. If none of the above works, moving your arrival to 12 February or later is usually cheaper than a missed trip.
