Short answer: if evisa.gov.vn won't load at all, the site is probably down or overloaded. Wait an hour and try again, ideally outside Vietnam's busy daytime hours. If it loads but errors, freezes or won't accept your files, the cause is usually on your side and can be fixed in a few minutes.
Fixes, in order
- Use an up-to-date Chrome or Firefox. Don't use a browser opened from inside Facebook, Messenger or an email app.
- Open a private/incognito window, or clear the cache.
- Turn off ad-blockers and extensions, and allow pop-ups. Payment can open in a pop-up.
- Turn off any VPN.
- Try another device or network, for example your phone on mobile data.
Upload errors
- File type and size: use JPG files under 2 MB. Phone photos are often larger, and HEIC files (iPhone) aren't accepted.
- "File has script tag, please try again": the image carries hidden data from the camera or an editing app. Take a screenshot of the photo, crop it, and upload the screenshot as a new JPG. Renaming the file doesn't help.
- "Low quality passport data page": the scan is blurry, has glare, or is a photo of a screen or a photocopy. Retake it. See the photo guide.
It froze after you paid
Don't submit again straight away. You could be charged twice. First look in your email and spam for a registration code starting with "E". If you have one, check it in the status search. If there is no code and no posted charge, the payment probably didn't go through. See charged but no visa.
